Last night, I went to see Casablanca the Arclight in Hollywood. It was a one night thing and I am sorry it was because I enjoyed it so much more on the big screen. I never realized how witty some of the lines are. There is nothing like having a live audience as well. The Arclight is my favorite theater. If you have never been, some of the best things about it are:
Old fashioned movie candy (Good and Plenty, Milk Duds, Junior Mints, Red Vines etc...)
Popcorn with real butter!
Caramel Corn!
Assigned Seating
No trailers
A beautiful cafe and gift shop in the lobby
Limited release movies

S'more cupcakes are a favorite among family and friends. Recently a coworker and fellow foodie ordered them from me for her daughter's pasta party. I delivered them today and am so happy about how they turned out.

My brother is 16 today. It is so weird!
Things I love the most about him
-How interested he is in Science and History
-How amazing he is at Cross Country
-That he can down 2 loaves of bread in two days (What????!!!)
-That he had two dates for his school's Homecoming (what a player!)
-Hearing him say things to people on XBox Live, what a card
-That on his birthday, though he has a mom and sister that could bake him anything he wants.... he wants boxed Betty Crocker yellow cake
-That he tries so many new things every day

A couple weeks ago I found out I hadn't done so savy on the math portion of my nursing school entrance exam. Ok, seriously they give 50 minutes for 45 problems and no calculator. It's been quite a while since I did long hand division, percentages, and decimal multiplication. I realized I really do not miss the days in middle school when you are not allowed calculators. I don't know a lot of nurses that do long division at the patient's bedside either..... Anyway, the only place I could retake it was at San Diego State University. That place is huge! Joe was kind enough to drive me to the test. I really hate driving and it was so nice to be able to relax on the way there. Afterwards, we when for a walk around downtown San Diego, which is where I snapped this picture. We always go to comic con and I don't think I have ever seen such a people-less and litter-less sight there. It was a beautiful day, and made the yuckiness of retaking an exam more pleasant and less yucky.

I don't think I've been this sick in a while. My major accomplishment for today, is that I have kept solid food down. It's been four days.... Being the foodie that I am, this is killing me! Since most of my time has been occupied by sleeping, watching old sitcoms, and wasting time online, I thought I would share the reason for my recent illness....

I really love Michelle Obama. No I mean really. I just bought a coat from Nordstroms because it was reminiscent of her lemongrass inauguration coat. Yeah I told you so, and this blog simply feeds the addiction a little too much! This picture of her is stunning. I want to blow this picture up and hang it somewhere!

The Obama family just got assigned nicknames according to Yahoo news They chose all R names for the Obamas, including the kids! Two things are awesome about this
1. Renegade for Obama? Because he's all awesome and into change? Can you imagine? "Renegade is on the move" "Renegade in the Kitchen" "Where's the Renegade?"
2. Why are they telling us? Isn't that kind of a security issue?

If you read the article it also contains popular nicknames, including emo ones... yeah that's right emo nicknames. My favorite one "This is real, I'm afraid; this time there is no hiding…" crazy long and random nickname.

Election Day

Election day was so fun this year. I was off from both school and work for a change. My grandma and I watched the news all morning and learned about all the free election goodies! I took her to the doctor that afternoon and then came home to wait for my sister. This was her first presidential election and I was so excited to vote with her. We actually voted the same on a lot of things. After waiting in a moderately long line we went to Starbucks for free (kind of burnt) coffee and Target for bargain shopping. Because in an economy like this what is more patriotic than shopping I ask you? I'm really amazing for doing my part :) We got home and made tortilla soup and watched returns. I loved watching every minute of this historical night with my family. I thought the speech was McCain's best ever, I wish he had spoke like this his entire campaign and of course chosen a different running mate. Obama was as inspiring as ever.

After a truly awful day at work on Friday I had a seriously fabulous time that night. Joe, Dave, Dawn, and I all went to Macaroni Grill in Alhambra. It was a perfect way to unwind, and just what I needed.

This Girl Loves Rent

Joe and I went to see "Rent Live on Broadway" on Thursday. I had to remind myself to breathe it was so good! I was a little skeptical because I always prefer live shows to recordings. As far as movies based on shows go, there were a few I think really worked, but Rent was not one of them. Movies can truly add to the visuals, but it removes the magic of the live performance. That being said I think this format was perfect for those of us not so close to Broadway. I loved hearing the taped audience reacting, being in the front row without losing any sense of the stage: the lighting, the characters, or the vocal quality. When the original cast returned to sing "Seasons of Love" at the end it was so poignant and powerful. Now that Rent closed I hope they release this version on DVD so we aren't just left with the Christopher Columbus movie (and how random is it that the directer of "Home Alone" would make Rent into a movie?).

So I don't know where the frozen yogurt phenomenon came from but.... I love it! I can't go anywhere in South Orange County where I can't find a close yogurt shop. However, when it comes to my favorites I am more than willing to go out of the way.

This Girl Got a New Phone!!!

And I love it! I've been looking at the iPhone ever since it came out. Though I haven't loved At&t, I tried Verizon, and really decided I wanted the iPhone. Cell phones are never 100% anyway so might as well have a fun phone right? My favorite thing so far... all the cool applications (some even for free!) on Itunes. Such a problem, when you have a huge amount of homework and a new toy to play with :)

So this ride is so awesome. Joe and I went on Saturday. It wasn't my first time but it was his and he loved it! We would have surely gone again but it had previously broken down and the single rider line wasn't really an option. So we went to Disneyland after, and let me tell you....Halloween Time is coming!

So I needed a calculator for my medication administration class. I was walking the whole length of Target (as usual) and I found an amazing assortment of Halloween and fall socks. It just about made my day! Now that I wear scrubs at my job, my socks are my only form of fun and expression. So splurging was definitely not something I felt guilty about and it was definitely a pick me up :) Halloween has to be one of my favorite holidays. This whole season is magical to me. I find myself sneaking Christmas music in the middle of July and begging Joe to let me play it in September. When October hits it's not even worth the argument any more, because for this California girl the cold can't come fast enough!

Ok where have Junior Mints gone? Joe and I went to see Iron Man last week at the spectrum. We decided to indulge on the magnificent combo of Junior Mints and popcorn. Instead of making a quick stop at the market we went straight to the counter in the theater, where not only did they not have them but they also weren't quite sure what I was referring too. Later this week we went to the two different snack shops, Target, and the sweet factory knock off candy store they have there, and not one of them had Junior Mints! Seriously people have you all forgot this chocolatee mintee treat?

Cabaret is one of my favorite musicals. Nothing says off Broadway like an opening number with girls looking like a Victoria's Secret ad, and a guy in eyeliner. I decided to start a blog for my new years resolution. So I'm getting started a little late, but better late than never right? Keep reading, I make myself laugh everyday so who knows the things I think of may be just as entertaining to you!
